Brixham is situated in South Devon
Torbay, in what the Victorians referred
to as The English Riviera. Brixham
is an established fishing port and
much of the community has been built
around the port, making it a unique
and homely town.
Much
of Brixhams town life revolves around
the harbour and its activities- these
include watching the Fishermen bring
in there daily catch of various seafoods
to wandering around the many individual
shops and cafes situated there

There
are also many places to book sea trips
for sailing around the coast of Brixham
or for the more adventurous there
are sea fishing trips including shark
fishing. Brixham is also steeped in
history- this includes the 14 acre
Battery Gardens, which was used in
1586 during the war between England
and Spain, and many historic buildings
dating back to the 17th century. For
railway enthusiasts there is also
The Brixham Branch Railway which was
originally built in 1868 but has now
been duplicated in all its glory in
the Brixham Museum, and many visitors
alike can imagine the atmosphere of
this once busy railway station. For
shopping there is Fleet Walk, an undercover
shopping centre, home to a vast selection
of shops, boutiques and cafes. There
is the Pavilion too which is a converted
Victorian theatre and this houses
more specialised shops and includes
a bar and restaurant. Just slightly
out of town is The Willows and this
has a huge supermarket as well as
several electrical stores and big
name clothes shops. Restaurants are
plentiful in a town such as Brixham
and the variety of food is excellent.
From Bistros to Balti Indian, chips
to chinese or paella to pubs there
is something there that will suit
everyones budget and appetites! There
are lots of various activities to
enhance a break in Brixham. For thrills
and adventure there is scuba diving
off the beach at Brixham Breakwater,
there is equipment hire shops in Torquay
or Paignton. Or for those wishing
a drier thrill there is Go Karting
on a Go Karting track just outside
Brixham. A golf course is located
at Cayman Golf on the Brixham/Paignton
Road and of course there are plenty
of coastal and romantic cliff walks.
To experience a bit of past history
there is always The Golden Hind Museum
Ship situated in The Quay- it is a
replica of Sir Francis Drakes ship
The Golden Hind. A trip to Brixham
Museum is worth while too, with many
original items relating to the life
and times of Brixham gone by. For
evening entertainment there are several
Theatres such as The Palace Theatre
Paignton and The Brixham Theatre Brixham
hosting many plays and musicals and
performances. There are also many
live music performances such as Classical
to choir singing, local bands and
dance shows, and is is best to check
with the local tourism board for details
for these. Brixham is the perfect
choice for holidays for families,
couples or individuals of all ages
which so much to offer so many people.
